Readers vs critics
Most years, the public vote lands on the same game the press crowned. These are the exceptions — walked through one by one, with how deep each revolt ran. The deepest: 2021, when the public's winner Resident Evil Village sat at #4 in the press table.
For each season: the press winner, the players' winner, and — the depth gauge — where the players' pick finished in the editorial table. A #2 is a nuance; a #4 is a revolt.

A season only qualifies when the readers' top spot is unambiguous: 2003, where three games tied at one readers' vote each — including the press winner — is agreement plus noise, not a revolt. Vote types come from the sources themselves; see the methodology.
